Four Days Until Talk Like a Pirate Day!

The Day Is Almost Here – And It's Tasty!

Our crewmates at Long John Silver's seafood are offering a free piece of fish to anyone who comes into one of their 1,200 restaurants dressed and talking like a pirate on Talk Like a Pirate Day!

You can rest assured you'll see my at the Kenner, LA, LJS restaurant on Williams Street, probably late afternoon, and I'll be feasting on my free piece of fried whitefish.

If you don't have a buccaneer wardrobe or the doubloons to buy one, you'll find advice on how to dress like a pirate from your own closet (or someone else's, if you catch our piratey drift) in our latest Youtube video. Ol' Chumbucket teaches a young lad how to drop his nerdly ways and flaunt his inner pirate at:

And don't forget Krispy Kreme, the purveyor of a pirate's favorite pastries. If you walk in on Sept. 19 and you're talking like a pirate, you'll get a free doughnut. If you DRESS like a pirate, you'll walk away with a dozen! But remember, they want you to go to a little effort. You can't just slap on an eye patch and say you're a pirate. They want to see at least three pieces of piratey paraphernalia on your person. Again, check out the video and you'll get plenty of pointers.

Parties Everywhere – Where's Yours?

We've hearing from people all over the world with their plans for celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day. Literally all over the world. The latest just came in from the University of Turku in Finland! In Las Vegas they're going for a "Drunken Sailor" record – No, not a record for the most drunken sailors in one place, but the most people SINGING "What Do You Do with a Drunken Sailor?" for the good folks at Guinness.

And the fine folks who have blessed the world with Piraat Ale will be holding special events at taverns all over the U.S. You don't want to miss that.

You can find these and much more on our big Calend-Aarr!, the map you'll find at:

Find your area and see if there's something going on there that you can join in on. If not, plan your own! And then let us know so the Web Wench can post it. You can reach her at

Win Greenbeard

Greenbeard the Pirate Pig is a children's picture book about a plucky guinea pig who loves lettuce so much his beard has turned green. One day he catches the bracing whiff if the salt sea air, and nothing will do but he must become a pirate.

The story and art are by Andrea Torrey Balsara, and the whole package – which includes a stuffed Greenbeard – are just cuter than a basket of puppies. The amusing tale follows Greenbeard as he overcomes obstacles, letting nothing stand in the way of his dream.

You can win your own copy of the initial adventure of Greenbeard! To enter, send an email to with your name, shipping address, and email address. Email entries must be received by midnight Sept. 29. Three lucky winners will be selected in a random drawing on September 30 and notified via email. Please, only one one entry per person; prizes will only be shipped to U.S. addresses.
